Meet David, a young collector pictured below with his mother Inna at a recent Charing Cross Collectors Market. David, who is nine, is shown holding his purchase, a George II silver shilling which he will be adding to his budding numismatics collection. His interest in coins began when he started using a metal detector around his local area in Richmond. He found some old coins and metal objects which he managed to sell, so now David is on way to becoming a dealer too.
David will be taking part in the second Be a Young Dealer for a Day initiative that runs at the weekly Saturday morning market during July and August.
Organiser Bridget Pettecrew took over running the market from her father Rodney Bolwell who started the market, beside Embankment underground station, in the 1970s. “This is our second ‘young dealer’ project aimed at encouraging young collectors of coins, stamps and other collectables to experience first hand what it’s like to take part in an established market.
