Portrait of a young gentleman, a painting sold at Christie’s in 2016 as ‘circle of Rembrandt’ that has now been attributed to the hand of the master. It is offered for sale by dealer Jan Six and is on view at the Hermitage in Amsterdam until June 15.
A work bought by a dealer at a Christie’s Old Master day sale in London in December 2016, where it was catalogued as ‘circle of Rembrandt (1606-1669)’, has now been attributed to the hand of the master.
The 3ft 4in x 2ft 5in (1.01m x 74cm) oil on canvas was bought by Dutch art dealer Jan Six – a descendant of a sitter with the same name featured in another Rembrandt portrait – together with an anonymous investor.
