Sword owned by Lt Belgrave Ninnis – £5600 at C&T.
A sword sold at Kent auction house C&T (22% buyer’s premium) belonged to a British Antarctic explorer who died in 1912 – but not with Robert Falcon Scott.
Belgrave Edward Sutton Ninnis (1877-1912), who served as a lieutenant in the Royal Fusiliers and had also tried to join Scott’s expedition, had a fine pedigree when it came to exploration.
