ROB YOUNG’s controversial attempt to break the record for running across America has ended in embarrassment after an investigation showed he was cheating.
The British man claimed to be on course to break Frank Giannino’s 36-year-old record of 46 days, 8 hours and 36 minutes, but withdrew 36 days into the attempt due to injury and amid accusations that he had covered some of the distance in a car.
The story featured in Dip Finish in the June 23 issue of AW and was followed by a letter in our July 7 issue from Chris Finill, a London Marathon ever-present and Trans-America runner, who pointed to, among other things, Young’s modest 3:07 marathon PB.
