KEEP TRAINING TO OFFSET FESTIVE OVERINDULGENCE

AS WE prepare for the inevitable overindulgence that is part and parcel of the party season, there’s some good news for athletes. Keep training and you will protect fat tissue from changes in inflammation levels and fat metabolism caused by a brief period of eating too many calories.

Previous studies have suggested that as little as one week of overeating can impair glycemic control and insulin sensitivity – even in fit individuals. Yet University of Michigan researchers found that athletes who binged on food but kept exercising showed none of the adverse effects.
