Róisín Murphy’s mesmerizing voice has defined my clubbing life. Sing It Back – released as Moloko along with then boyfriend/producer Mark Brydon – was pretty much the first song I swung my hips to on a dancefloor. That sublime piece of disco-pop was followed by the hypnotic The Time Is Now and glorious Forever More. After Moloko disbanded, Róisín embarked on a solo career that delivered a delectable menu of sounds that stand out as definitive high points in the dance world’s musical landscape.
Róisín is hard to define. She blends the creative vigor of Björk with the edgy melodies of Grace Jones’ discography, wrapped up in the feisty frame of an Irish siren. Her styling has always been undefinable and utterly beguiling.
