THICK fog was the last thing nine crewmen saw before their anti-submarine patrol aircraft slammed into a Mull of Kintyre hillside.
Neptune C Charlie, a Lockheed P2V-5, was returning from an exercise off Derry, Northern Ireland, to its base at Topcliffe, North Yorkshire, on October 10 1956, when it hit Beinn na Lice, killing everyone on board.
The servicemen were honoured at a St Columba’s Church, Topcliffe, memorial service last Sunday, one day short of the 60th anniversary.
