PIPER Willie McCallum senior, a founding member of the Kintyre Piping Society, could not have had a better send-off than last Saturday’s Springbank Invitational.
When one of the judges mentioned having a ‘lump in his throat’ when he saw old Willie’s picture on the programme cover, there was a murmur of assent and possibly a moist eye or two among the audience.
Watching Willie’s son, Willie jnr, playing the final tune of the competition, in the fading sun streaming through the window at Seafield hotel, it was obviously an emotional event.
