Beyond the fringe: Marcella Detroit and Siobhan Fahey
“Luckily, I never throw anything away,” laughs Laurence Stevens, the original sleeve designer for Sacred Heart, Hormonally Yours and, indeed, the new boxset. “I’ve still got job bag notes on every sleeve I’ve done so I know everything, right down to the typesetting.”
Looking back at a distance of almost three decades Marcella suggests there was an inevitability about the duo’s original split in 1993. “We were put together but we both came from such different backgrounds musically, different influences. There was always a point where we met in the middle - we both loved Motown, for example. But I came from a more rock’n’roll and blues background and brought a funk and soul influence to it. And Siobhan had perhaps more of a punky influence. Together we created something unique.
