I can’t get faster than 16Mbps, so do I need a new router?
Q
Because I live in a rural area, the fastest broadband I can get is 16Mbps. My router is provided by Sky. After reading Issue 701’s Cover Feature (‘Why you must bin your old router’), my question is what improvements would I see from buying a new router?
Frank Milnes
A If you’re not getting the speeds promised by your broadband provider, buying a new router is probably not the best first step. Before doing anything else, we’d suggest contacting Sky and asking why your broadband is so slow and whether there’s anything the company can do to speed it up, particularly if you are paying for a faster service. You may have tried this, but it’s worth contacting them again, in case anything has changed on their network infrastructure.
