Add underlined blank spaces in printed documents
If you need to print documents for people to sign or fill in, you can underline blank spaces so they know where to write. One option is to underline by pressing Shift+Hyphen, but it can be tricky to line these up – making forms look untidy.
A better method is to type blank spaces using the Tab key. First, click Home at the top followed by the ‘Show paragraph’ icon ( 1 in our screenshot). This shows other formatting marks such as tab spaces. Now position your cursor where you want the spaces to appear, then press the Tab key on your keyboard (two horizontal arrows pointing in opposite directions, usually to the left of Q). These spaces will be represented by arrows. Select the arrows then press Ctrl+U to underline them 2 . Press the Tab key again to make the line longer, if needed. These lines will print, but not the arrows.
