On the cover of the January 2022 edition of Diesel&EcoCar is the second-generation Kia Niro, a vehicle that is expected to be one of the biggest selling electric cars in the coming years, just as the outgoing model has been a pioneer of the sector. It’s revealed alongside the Suzuki S-Cross, facelifted versions of the Skoda Karoq and Volkswagen T-Roc, as well as an all-new rough-and-tough Ford Ranger. There’s news of the upcoming Genesis GV70 Electrified and Polestar 5, as well as the Hyundai Ioniq 7 and Kia EV9. Mazda took the wraps off its new 2 Hybrid, a clone of Toyota’s Yaris, just as the Japanese brand was revealing its Corolla Cross for Europe. Vauxhall unveils the Astra Sports Tourer and Nissan unwraps a brace of new concept cars that are set to be productionised for Europe.

Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 clashes with the Mercedes-Benz EQA in this month’s twin test, both providing different solutions to the electric vehicle problem. Which one wins in this pure electric brawl?
