2020 The Results

Chris Chibnall, showrunner and co-writer of Fugitive of the Judoon (2020).

The 2020 series of Doctor Who was packed with surprises, and until the final batch of readers’ votes were counted, the winner of the Favourite Story category was similarly unpredictable. There were three front runners: Ascension of the Cybermen/The Timeless Children, which revealed the origins of the Time Lords; Spyfall, which featured the return of the Master, and Fugitive of the Judoon, which introduced Jo Martin as the Doctor. Co-writer Vinay Patel says: “This is a lovely surprise and a massive relief because I was terrified about the reaction before it went out! Shout out to my pal and director extraordinaire, Nida Manzoor, and to the incredible Jo Martin, on whose performance this whole episode rests. You pray for your scripts to land in hands as good as these.
