The ‘giant wasp’ Vespiform creature is one of the most sought-after of all modern Doctor Who toys. Only available as a collect-and-build item that could be assembled from 12 parts packaged with other figures in 2008, the Vespiform hovers above the ground with the aid of a translucent plastic stand. Its scarcity perhaps has something to do with the fact that the Vespiform wave was released hot on the heels of the regular Series 4 selection – meaning that fans who wanted to collect the insect parts found themselves only able to do so by double-dipping and re-purchasing a lot of figures they already owned. Despite this sting in the tail, however, the Vespiform is a lovely showpiece – and most of those who completed the quest have found it worthwhile.
