Electronic Sound Magazine Issue 122 Vorige editie

More than 25 years on from The Art Of Noise's last studio album, three of the five founding members – JJ Jeczalik, Gary Langan and Paul Morley – are rebooting the group as The Art Of This. They're in fantastic form for our interview, telling tales from their early days and talking about going back to their avant-garde roots. They discuss Morley's manifesto for the rejuvenated unit, which also includes former ZZT label manager Ian Peel, and describe themselves as "a sequel" to the original group. They claim there is another offshoot too, The Art Of That, which they say they'll use “in shadowy ways”. True to form for the oddball electronic maestros, you should expect the unexpected.

While you're trying to get your head around this (and that), we should let you know we also have lots of other great reads elsewhere in this issue. There's Matt Berry, Bill Nelson, Marie Davidson, Vivien Goldman, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Helen Ganya, Tunng, Moon Wiring Club and Ela Minus, just to get you started. Now that's what you call The Art Of Excellent Music Journalism.

We have a very exciting and historic release with this issue of Electronic Sound – a limited edition seven-inch featuring the first two recordings by The Art Of This. It's on silver vinyl too. The A-side is 'Manifesto (Introduction To A Group)', an alluring piece of sound art that builds into a radiant wash, with Paul Morley's spoken words front and centre of the track. The other side of the record is the somehow simultaneously sinister and soothing 'In A Moment (Introduction To A Song)', again with Morley taking a lead role. The "Song" in question, by the way, is The Art Of Noise's 'Moments In Love'.
