SPECIAL FEATURE: in Learn To Succeed this issue Gavin Stoker takes an in depth look at the increasingly important area of professional training. There's a lot of training out there, some of it of immense value, and freelance pros with their eyes on the top are increasingly realising the potential benefits. We find the best!
The f2 Profile: Over the past decade top portraitist Pål Hansen has photographed everybody from the Queen of Denmark, to Helen Mirren; his work regularly making the covers of Time Magazine and many others. Hansen talks strategy and success with f2 editor David Land

Turning Pro is wedding photographer Alison Buchanan. Formerly a Production Assistant at the BBC, and in full time practice for just a year, after first covering weddings for friends, she says, “just going to weddings and being a good photographer wasn’t enough - I needed to know more about all that being professional entails - the pricing structure, the album design, everything: so I went and trained"

Starting out: Sarah Brimley graduated in Commercial Photography at Bournemouth in 2010 and feels that finding someone to assist is a bit like dating. “You need to find someone that you click with, otherwise you just won’t enjoy it”, she explains. Brimley clicked with celebrity portrait photographer Chris Floyd which in turn led to the unique opportunity - an assisting job with David Bailey.
The Business Section Leonora Saunders reveals her somewhat retro view of networking - talking face to face!
Also in The Business section Darren Arthur talks to f2 about starting out on GolfPunk magazine, and why he’s
branching out into weddings
Technical Section While buying an extra f-stop in prime glass can cost many hundreds of pounds, just changing a camera’s ISO setting from 400 to 800 is free, and these days can produce quality
results. Adam Woolfitt reports
Kevin Carter looks at Canon’s latest offerings in the pro-specified A3+ printer market - the Pixma Pro-1, Pro-10 and Pro-100
