A Porsche estate car, one powered by a hybrid drivetrain no less. Is this the end of the world as we know it? Thankfully no. But there’s a great deal to taking away from the unveiling of the Panamera Sport Turismo at last month’s Paris Motor Show, most notably that that Porsche will be offering full plug-in hybrid technology on a series production car in the same year its hybrid-hyper car, the 918 Spyder, goes on sale. Porsche is taking this electricity thing seriously.
Back to more traditional power sources, this month we’ve a drive of the new 991 Carrera 4 Coupé and Cayenne S Diesel (yes, sounds strange to be suggesting a diesel powered Porsche is now considered a normal power source) and we have been on track with three generations of 997 GT3 RS to experience the evolutionary trail of this iconic 911. We also bring our 911 Turbo Files anthology to a close with the most current example of the turbo-charged wonder the 997.2 Turbo S.
Our biggest scoop this month however, is a drive of the 1987 Le Mans winning 962C, the last Group C Porsche to win the most famous motor race on Earth. Andrew Frankel was the lucky swine to get to wear the overalls and enjoy one of the greatest drives of his life. He’s still smiling now.
Away from the track, this month we have introduced our new classic Porsche section within the magazine, called Retro Porsche. Set to cover all Porsche models up to, and including 1989, Retro Porsche will bring you the very latest news, the greatest features and the best advice to owning, running and buying a classic Porsche. This month see us tell the story of a rather special ’71 911 T that has been faithfully restored to its as new condition, how one person’s goal to build the very best 2.7 Carrera RS replica resulted in one of the very best classic Porsches we have ever seen and, to top it all off, we’ve a guide to which classic Porsches are the ones to buy.
Enjoy the issue, and we’ll see you next month.
