I didn’t start running until I was an adult. It was 2008 and I was working in a small animal practice near home in Glossop, Derbyshire, when a colleague suggested I go along to a local fell race. I wasn’t very good, but thought it was amazing that people were running across the hills for fun. I love being in the hills – that’s the main draw for me really, the places running takes me. Plus the whole scene is very low-key: it’s not about big prize money, it’s about cake and tea afterwards and having a chat. It felt like I’d really found a group of people I could relate to, so I joined a club.
