Born Survivors
ANDES ORDEAL
Dramatised in both print and film, the story of the Uruguayan airplane that crashed in the Andes in 1972 continues to enthral. Several passengers were killed in the crash, and more died in an avalanche, but sixteen survived, mostly rugby players who’d been on their way to a match in Chile. They were forced to eat flesh from the dead and endured sub-zero temperatures before being rescued, after 72 days of freezing hell.
