Plans to create Scotland’s largest ‘net zero’ housing development have been granted planning permission by the City of Edinburgh Council. The council is working with the contractor CCG (Scotland) and architect Cooper Cromar on the construction of Western Villages, which will be designed according to the principles of CCG’s ‘Net Zero Home’ housebuilding standard with a focus on enhanced fabric performance. The 444 new homes (a mix of one to three-bedroom flats) will be equipped with low-carbon heating and renewable technology to help reduce carbon emissions. Construction of Western Villages is due to begin in mid-2022.
