Kim Ratcliffe answers:
First of all think about how you’re breathing through your tests – many people end up shallow breathing due to tension and nerves. Keep breathing out deeply, as, that way, you’ll relax more and maximise your oxygen intake.
Second, how you approach learning your test can help considerably. Try to learn it in real time at the speed you’ll be riding the movements, visualising what it will look like from the saddle when you look straight and positively ahead. Check that you know it by visualising the test at riding speed, with your eyes closed. That way it will be set deeper in your mind and any tension will be less likely to block your memory.
