Always offer plain water alongside any flavoured options to ensure he can pick whichever he prefers.
Thirsty work
My horse doesn’t like to drink at shows. How do I make sure he doesn’t dehydrate?

A Horse&Rider answers:
Not drinking when away from home is a surprisingly common issue, and can be a real worry for owners. The first step is to look at how you can increase his water intake from other sources – soaking the haynet your horse travels with is a good first step, as is offering extra sloppy feeds. You could consider adding a mash or using quick soak sugar beet mixed into his normal feed, as well as just adding more water to the feed he usually has, before setting off – and even offering extra, sloppy feeds during the day, where possible.
