That unionist rope, embedded around the body of the Scottish Parliament, broadcast and print media regularly reminds and reinforces our country that we are not in control because we have abdicated our powers through coercive consent
AS OUR AWARD winning iScot Magazine enters its eighth year of publication I can’t help but reminisce about what could have been had Scotland been brave and confident enough to have chosen independence in the 2014 referendum. Many of the arguments used against independence relied heavily upon the tried and tested unionist tropes of fear, uncertainty and doubt to persuade a small majority of the electorate to give away Scotland’s independence and, as we currently take stock of Boris Johnson’s premiership of the United Kingdom, we can only wonder why independence is still polling at 50 per cent. Are we really our own worst enemy? Why do we abdicate responsibility to a parliament in another country who routinely hold our country and our elected representatives in contempt?
