At last spring seems to finally have sprung. The daffodils and primroses are popping their golden yellow heads out of the ground, the sun is shining more often than not (barring the odd April shower – read more about those on page 81) and there’s a general sense of anticipation in the air. In this issue we’re celebrating all that’s great about spring. On page 18 we visit the gorgeous daffodil collection at Cotehele gardens in Cornwall and discover why they are a legacy of a once thriving local industry, while on page 114 we visit the home of Wordsworth’s famous daffodils – the Lake District. With its rich literary history, stunning landscape, tasty local produce and wealth of attractions that appeal to all the family, it’s definitely worth a visit at this time of year. Tulips are another harbinger of spring and on page 24 we take a look at their rich heritage and discover the best way to grow them. It’s not just flowers that herald the beginning of this new season, our wildlife starts getting more active too. On page 108 we reveal why the normally elusive and mysterious hare is more easy to spot at this time of year. Their cousins, the rabbit, of course come into their own as the Easter Bunny at the end of March this year, read more about caring for them as pets on page 88. We’ve got plenty of ideas in this issue to help you celebrate Easter, from our cute novelty nest eggs on page 62 to some tasty recipes on page 50 and a mouth-watering family feast on page 57. If you’re looking for something to keep your kids occupied during the Easter holidays take inspiration from our feature on page 84 and get them building their very own woodland sofa. And why not combine a bit of education with a great family day out, by taking the kids to an Iron Age food festival? Read all about this fascinating event on page 100 – we’ve even got an authentic recipe for you to try so you can eat like our ancestors. Enjoy!
