First public view of Pi Compute Module 5
German electronics fair gets a first glimpse of the fruity new single-board computer.
The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5
(CM5) has been spotted in the wild.
This unannounced compactoptimised version of the Raspberry Pi 5 is
apparently on show at the Electronica 2024
show in Munich. With this high-profile public
showing of the CM5, it is probably fair to
expect an imminent official launch, though
Raspberry Pi has published no word on
timing or availability.
The availability of the CM5 seems past due. We managed to glean some details from Electronica 2024 photos of the CM5 and IO Board that will clear a few questions up. It’s a Pi 5-based Broadcom BCM2712 Arm Coretex-A76 64-bit quad-core SoC running at 2.4GHz with the VideoCore VII GPU. It looks like memory configurations of 1GB to 16GB are on the cards, with storage of 8GB to 128GB via eMMC. We can see two HDMI, two USB 3.0 Type A slots, Ethernet and a M.2 slot but no generic PCIe as on the CM4. There’s also a Pi 5 fan connector.
