With more vinyl available on more racks since the dawning of the CD age, record buyers are once again armed with the freedom of choice, but which albums proved the most popular among record buyers in the 2010s?
Scanning the Official Albums Chart results for the last decade, it’s apparent that they read like a greatest hits of the last 63 years (when the charts started) with a few modern takes thrown in.
At the top of the tree is Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, which has been a regular fixture of the Top 100 for the last few years thanks to its vinyl edition, with 130,000 vinyl sales since the decade began. Representing the modern age, Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black notches second place with 125,000 sales, while Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon bags third with 113,000. Of the contemporary acts to make an impact, Artic Monkeys’ AM is a credible number six, one below The Stone Roses’ debut.
