Equally Well Aotearoa New Zealand began in 2013 when a group of people with lived experience and other leaders from the community mental health and addiction sector, led by a non-government representative body Platform Trust, were discussing the number of untimely and unexpected deaths of people who accessed their services.
They agreed what was happening was not acceptable and that urgent action was needed. The group partnered with Te Pou o te Whakaaro Nui (Te Pou), one of the national mental health, addiction and disability workforce and information centres for Aotearoa New Zealand, to conduct an evidence review.
