Whether your interest be warships, steam, sail, nostalgia, scale or a healthy mix of all, the January issue of Model Boats promises something of everything starting with the first of two part feature on MBD’s semi-kit of the Thames tug Falconbrook. Dave Brumstead’s step-by-step build of the late ‘50s river workhorse precedes our S.S. Mullogh series where, this month, Phil Button can be found planking the deck and adding some home-spun fittings. The quality scale content continues as Dave Wooley turns his attention to detailing the missile tubes of his OSA 2 project, Marcus Rooks returns to walk us around his completed, and utterly inspiring, HMS Dreadnought and, courtesy of Chris Drage, we have a tale of two Arctic convoys, beautifully represented in 1:700 scale. But wait! We didn’t write ‘No.1 for Sail & Scale’ on the cover for nothing, indeed there’s sail content here, there and everywhere, from our cover story of the wool clipper Mount Stewart to a bottle boat race, coverage of the M-Class ranking event and a review of Billing’s quick-build fishing cutter Dana. Add some steam, a bit of nostalgia, a traditional wooden speed boat review and, as you can see, there’s much to enjoy.

Model Boats

I started reading Model Boats in 1963, the whole scene has changed dramatically in those intervening years and sadly it seems that it is mostly older people who read the mag and keep the hobby alive, I have returned to the hobby after nearly 30 years away, the guidance offered in the magazine is most helpful Beoordeeld op 30 maart 2020

Model Boats

What can I say? By far the best modelling magazine ever. I started with Model Maker April 1956! Beoordeeld op 13 februari 2020
