Film companies have long had a fascination with railways. Brief Encounter, Young Winston, North West Frontier and Oh, Mr. Porter! are prime examples of this trend and have previously been covered in Model Rail.
Unmistakably English in setting and style, The Titfield Thunderbolt, largely filmed on the closed Camerton branch, on the original Bristol & North Somerset Railway, is among the best known.
Rapido Trains UK’s new train sets blaze a trail in providing ready-to-run products for a film in model form for the first time (see Chris Leigh’s review on page 80). As a railway film buff, this is right up my street and I suspect that many others will feel a similar urge to build a suitable layout or diorama.
