LNER’s long-awaited order for 10 additional new trains has been awarded to CAF. The 10-car tri-mode (electric/battery/diesel) trains will be assembled in South Wales and will allow LNER to retire its remaining ex-BR InterCity 225 sets.

GB Railfreight’s 59003 Yeoman Highlander returned to traffic in October after being sidelined for almost two years for wheelset repairs. The company’s sole Class 59 was seriously damaged during attempts to recover two stricken DMUs after November 2021’s collision at Salisbury Tunnel Junction. On November 7 the ‘59’ was back in Salisbury powering a Westbury-Eastleigh infrastructure train.

The latest variant of Alstom’s ‘Aventra’ EMU to enter passenger service is the West Midlands Railway Class 730 – three years after the first sets were completed. Three-car Class 730/0s intended for local routes in the West Midlands started work on selected Euston commuter diagrams on November 13 – initially acting as a stopgap to allow the withdrawal of London Northwestern Railway’s remaining Class 319s.
