WAS AN ART band ever more committed, more impactful than Devo? The UK had Bowie and Roxy, but neither maintained the single-minded philosophical message or cultural oppositionism of Devo. Devo made music that was indigestible by design; it stuck in the craw – spiky, nerdy, unsexy – and forced you to take a position on it.
