The title of this issue’s Cardboard Conversation is from a 1960s Broadway musical that perfectly sums up the way I feel about 2020, a horrendous year that is thankfully drawing to a close. An out of control pandemic, rampant job loss, soaring unemployment, the death of George Floyd, civil unrest, monster hurricanes, massive wildfires, the mud-slinging of a particularly nasty presidential election…well, it’s certainly a year to remember or maybe one that’s just better to forget.
Even our little hobby was not immune to disruption. Just about every show was cancelled, from all-purpose events like the San Diego and New York comic cons to pure trading card exhibits like The National and the Chicago and Philly non-sport shows. Even many card releases targeted for early in the year were rescheduled, sometimes more than once. Still, some interesting product did manage to make it to market.
