NUMEROUS historic sites in the Highlands are allowing Young Scot cardholders entry for £1 to celebrate the Year of Young People 2018. The offer is available at Glenfinnan monument, Glencoe visitor centre, Inverewe and Hugh Miller’s birthplace cottage and museum in the Highlands, as well as more than 100 other sites throughout Scotland. The offer has been created due to a recommendation from a Heritage Blueprint report by young people who claimed some historic sites were too expensive for young people and is an attempt to engage more young Scots in historic sites.
Mena Kirmani, Heritage Blueprint member, said: ‘This is an incredible opportunity for young Scots in the Highlands to explore Scotland’s history and celebrate the Year of Young People 2018.’
Historic Environment Scotland chief executive Alex Paterson commented: ‘I’d encourage Scotland’s young people to take advantage of this historic offer and go and explore the country’s rich and diverse history first hand - from the magnificent Neolithic monuments in Orkney to the beautiful Border abbeys.’
