For many of us, swimming plays a big role in our lives. It provides us with exercise, access to nature and social contact. Regular swimming sessions build structure around our lives. Events and challenges give us goals to work towards and a sense of accomplishment when we complete them. It is part of our identity. We spend money on it, we talk about it and we annoy our non-swimming friends with our endless suggestions that they join us and repeatedly telling them how good it makes us feel.
