WE’VE highlighted the advantage that the 1.6x crop option in the EOS R range of full-frame cameras can be when you can’t get physically close to a subject.
When this option is enabled under Cropping/Aspect Ratio in the main menu, the camera crops the centre of the sensor to give the same tighter view as if you had an EF-S, RF-S or other APS-C lens attached. Bear in mind that unlike the other aspect ratio options available, the 1.6x crop is permanently applied even when you shoot Raw files – and there’s no undoing it in software.
