"The first Women’s Tour de Suisse was won by Trek-Segafredo’s Lizzie Deignan. After breaking away with Elise Chabbey and finishing second on the first stage, Deignan was well placed to take overall victory the next day. She targeted the time bonuses at the intermediate sprints to overhaul the four-second deficit to Chabbey, and ultimately collected five bonus seconds to secure overall victory by the finest of margins.
I think it’s great that a race like the Tour de Suisse started a women’s race, because it is a really good organisation and we knew a really competitive bike race would come of this. I think that is the main focus of us being there and doing well. You have to ask Lizzie but it is extremely special for her to win. It doesn’t really matter if you win the first one or the second one, it’s always special to win a bike race.
