POST-ROCK
Alex Lynham guides us through the peaks and valleys of essential post-rock.
Maarja Nuut’s third solo album, Hinged (maarjanuut.bandcamp. com) is a stunning piece of work, straddling folk, ambient and a cappella pop. It leans toward a more ambient style, as on A Scene/Merevees or Mees Kes Aina Igatses/A Man Who Ever Yearned, with a pronounced mood of introspection.
There are fleeting bursts of immediacy though and the bubbling pulse of Kutse Tantsule/ A Call to Dance. Also check out the acoustic drums on the title track, and Subota with its chopped synths and percussion. Then play it all over again!
