THE SIX NATIONS
France played their first Five/Six Nations game outside of Paris last month, marking their championship debut in Marseille with a win over Italy. It was part of the French federation’s pledge to take more international rugby to the provinces and the South of France is a rugby hotbed. As it transpired, the match did not sell out, observers putting this down to a growing discontent among fans about the state of French rugby. Yet the historic fi xture did raise the question of whether more Six Nations ties should be moved to new venues, giving fans in different areas a chance to see top-class rugby closer to home.
