TWO WEEKS WITH THE ACER PREDATOR TRITON 14 AI

This ultraportable doesn’t have the looks, or the specs, of a pure gaming laptop… but it’s still a beast. Will Tom Morgan-Freelander be convinced after two weeks?

A button toggles between power modes without having to open Acer’s app when you want more gaming power or less fan noise.

DAY 01

If I’d had any doubts that the Acer Predator Triton 14 AI was a gaming laptop when I first took it out of the box, they evaporated when its keyboard erupted in a rainbow of lights as soon as I pressed the power button.

The whole thing is machined from aluminium, with a sleek gunmetal finish and minimal branding, so it’s a lot less conspicuous when the lid’s closed. At 1.58kg and just 17.3mm at its thickest point it’s a world away from the brash and bulky styling I’m used to with gaming laptops; and while gaming grunt. Hopefully that should translate to better battery life than you tend to get on entirely frag-focused machines, which can easily conk out after less than 2hrs of action.
