District 9 was released in 2009. A dystopian near-present designed to be an allegory for the horrors of 1970s and 80s South Africa, the film focuses on the civil forces of the world cruelly exploiting the aliens – termed ‘prawns’. In 2019, Weta Workshop, the studio who worked on the film, providing special effect, prosthetics and a great deal of the sticky, rubbery nastiness, have produced a game of the events of the film.
