The New English Art Club is delighted to announce the creation of a new NEAC £5,000 Artist Scholarship, awarded to an artist in the early stage of their career to promote their artistic development. NEAC president, Peter Brown, explains: ‘Many people paint because they can afford to do so. But how many people cannot even consider it as an option? The barrier is, of course, a lack of money and support. The NEAC has a wealth of talent within its membership in professional practice, mentoring and teaching. Allying this with an enabling £5,000 award, we hope to encourage the practise of figurative art at grassroots level to as diverse a group as we can.’
The new scholarship will launch in January and an online silent auction of selected members’ work was organised in December to help fund the prize. The winner and two runnersup prizes (£250 each) will be announced at the NEAC’s annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries later in the summer. As well as their monetary prizes, the winners will also enjoy close mentorship with leading figures of the NEAC and free entry to all its classes and workshops. In addition, their work will be displayed at the annual exhibition.
