The Sir John Hawkshaw pub is a lovely place and has such warm light. Inside it receives very little external light, so everything was based on the warmth of the internal lights and the effect they had on the figures and the surroundings. I normally take the train form London Cannon Street to Belvedere in Kent and I always pass this pub. I had so often postponed making a painting of the many people eating and drinking after work, during the busy rush hour. On this occasion there wasn’t going to be any procrastination. As before, I sketched before I ordered my food and completed the sketch while eating.
