Rolls has the Spirit of Ecstacy, Bentley the Flying B. Designed by artist F Gordon Crosby, the mascot was first offered in the Twenties. An emphasis on silent performance meant a sleeker single-winged design was commissioned in the Thirties, but it wasn’t popular and a dual-winged alternative was made. It looked like a goner in the Seventies when health and safety laws banned ornaments, but made a triumphant return in 2006 when the company invented a fully retractable version of the Flying B.
