Set in the Category-B men’s prison of Longmarsh, new six-part drama Screw pits Nina Sosanya’s veteran prison officer Leigh against newbie Rose (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell). One is C-wing’s senior officer, dedicated to her job and closer to the inmates than her colleagues; the other is smart, unfocused and unfazed by her new surroundings. “Prison officers are public servants, yet they’ve never had their own TV show in the way paramedics, firefighters or police have,” explains creator Rob Williams (The Victim). “A lot of prison officers feel ignored and even disliked – it was great to challenge that.”
