MENTAL TRAINING
WORDS: KIM INGLEBY
I just don’t know if I’m good enough”, is a statement I often hear. Most of us run because we love it. It gives us a buzz and a sense of satisfaction. Yet over time, through setbacks, injury and perhaps even success, we can begin to question if we are good enough and lose the spark of enjoyment.
My passion as a running confidence coach is to help people keep that spark of enjoyment, while growing a practical, positive outlook to their training. Adding value to not only their running sessions, but all areas of their lives.
I have coached thousands of women, from those running their first 5K to ultrarunners completing crazy multi-stage races, to members of Team GB. Personally I’ve completed seven marathons around the world, from Sierra Leone to Stirling in Scotland. Each of them have presented different challenges: overcoming injury, learning to manage a complex neurological condition, managing my fears and self-doubt when coming last, and keeping my focus and self-belief when competing for Team GB for my age group. The one thing that has genuinely made the biggest difference to them all? Being committed to enhancing my mental resilience and inner confidence.
