Running on hills an uphill struggle? Time to flex those hip flexors
Hip flexors are a very important muscle for runners, yet they frequently get neglected… until a problem starts, that is.
Why do it?
The hip flexor muscles connect your spine to your thigh bone and their function is to lift your leg up while you run. Weakness causes you to have a ‘lazy’ leg lift; if this is happening, you can normally hear scuffing while you run. If you look at the soles of your running shoes and you can see scuff marks on the soles, especially in the forefoot area, it’s a sign that you should improve the strength of your hip flexors. If you’re prone to falling over your own feet, that could also be a sign of weak hip flexor muscles.
