Although the seemingly never-ending summer breaks of my schooldays are long gone, August still has a lovely lazy, laid back feel. It’s the perfect month to spend weekends enjoying barbecue parties with friends and family and on p.56 you’ll find our pick of the latest barbecues and smokers. Plus we’ve got some mouth-watering tropical recipes on p.100 to add a little sunshine to your summer mealtimes. Whether the sun beats down or the rain lashes down this summer you’ll be thankful for a place to retreat to in your garden and on p.114 we’ve got some gorgeous ideas for sheds, summerhouses and gazebos, while on p.111 presenter of Channel 4’s ‘Amazing Spaces,’ George Clarke, gets us excited about building a treehouse in the garden. Meanwhile, our makeovers in this issue all have great views of the garden – from the colourful summerhouse on p.24, to the elegant sunroom on p.28 and the conservatory on p.32 that combines seaside and Scandi style. If you’ve ever hankered after a home beside the sea, you’ll love the four reader homes in this issue, they’re all very different but each is an inspiration (p.73).
