Maintaining China’s position as the leading source of sleepers at salerooms throughout Britain was this red coral figure group (right) of an 8in (20cm) tall woman and child with a parrot, offered at the Buckinghamshire rooms of Bourne End Auction Rooms (15% buyer’s premium) on February 1.
The group – a local private consignment – stood on a later carved wood stand and had some damage, but sold at £14,000 (estimate £400-600) to a London dealer.
