Boulle commode – €225,000 (£193,965) at Hampel.
This highly elaborate chest of drawers decorated in boulle marquetry technique with a variety of different figural and foliate motifs featured in the furniture session of a sale at Hampel (29.5% buyer’s premium) in Munich on March 28.
The 2ft 10in (88cm) high by 3ft 11in (1.2m) wide commode, with sculptural handles and female mask mounts to the sides, is stamped Sageot and was the work of the Parisian cabinetmaker Nicolas Sageot (1666-1731), a contemporary and sometime collaborator of André-Charles Boulle.
