Shelley Art Deco Vogue Green Chevron part teaset designed by Eric Slater, £940 at Boldon Auction Galleries.

Shelley produced the geometric Vogue and Mode shape tea and coffee wares between 1930-32 - both the designs of Eric Slater (1902-84) who had worked at the factory since the end of the First World War.

The Pottery Gazette reported: “They may or may not carry the public by storm, but one thing they certainly will do, they will cause people to stop and think… There are those who for a long time past have been agitating for a more adventurous spirit in the manufacturing circles of the pottery trade. Well, here it is!”
